Chief Peter Carnes Passed Away After A Long Battle With Cancer
It is with deep sadness that I report to you the death of one of our founding members. Peter Carnes passed away last evening following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Peter was one the founding members of MAPLE back in 2016. As Chief of the Stonehill College police force, he opened the facilities to our infant organization and gave us the backing and the opportunity to get it off the ground. He was our first Treasurer. Peter devoted his life to making professional policing a reality. He sought excellence and integrity from those who worked with and for him and exemplified the values that he expected in others. I first met him in 1987 during an investigation when he was the Chief of the Wenham Police. We became close friends and I followed his career from his transfer to Yarmouth PD, then Stonehill PD and finally as the Director of Barnstable County police academy. Massachusetts policing has lost one of its strongest champions today. We offer our prayers and condolences to him and his family.
More details about funeral arrangements will be forwarded when they are received.
