POLICE EDUCATION BILL IS FILED

The Senate Clerk Will Review And Assign a Number

MAPLE has successfully filed legislation requiring 60 credit hours of higher education for candidates seeking positions as police officers.  This standard will apply to all candidates whether veterans or not.   If passed all candidates must present evidence that have completed 60 credit hours of higher education in criminal justice, police science or in any field of study authorized by the state’s POST commission.

The legislation was filed  “upon request” of Dennis Galvin MAPLE President by Senator John Cronin, who is the chair of the joint committee on Public Safety.  The filing is now awaiting a review by the Senate Clerk, who will assign a number and committee to the bill.

MAPLE extends a special thanks to Kevin Bowe, Senator Cronin’s chief of staff for his efforts working with us to make this happen.    We won’t start calling supporters yet until we get the bill number.   A copy of the legislation is attached for your review.
