ARE POLICE MISCONDUCT CASES INCREASING OR DOES IT JUST SEEM THAT WAY?

A Flurry of Press Inquiries Flood MAPLE Over Recent Police Misconduct.

Mid-March saw a flurry of press inquiries with MAPLE.  The Boston Globe, MassLive and NBC Channel 10 all featured stories requesting comment on these issues. The month was a tough one for Massachusetts policing.

The State Police, in particular, led the news with the indictments of four troopers implicated in the death of Trooper Enrique Delgado Garcia at the State Police Academy during a self defense program.  This was quickly followed up by revelations of a coverup of a fatal accident involving a state police Sergeant. Evidence had been withheld that the Sergeant’s blood alcohol content was over the legal limit.  There were fatal crashes involving off duty police officers in Brockton and Mansfield.

In commenting to the press,  President Galvin described the situation as “shocking” and warned that they threatened to further undermine public confidence in the police and would probably deter competent candidates from seeking a future in police work in Massachusetts.  So we ask you; is this getting worse or is this just the way it has always been ?
